Resources

On this site you will find links to different parts of our resource pack, however, it is not possible to cover all bases and reflect all experiences; the best way to do that is to get out there and get involved yourself as each experience will be unique, but we hope that these guidelines and our gentle advice in this pack with help to answer some of the questions you are too afraid to ask.

In the first section you will find a guide to performance poetry detailing the different elements necessary to keep in mind when being a performance poet; everything from choosing your material and approaching promoters to marketing yourself and running your own show.

Working in education and participation gives you basic information on our education and participation work and what you need to do to get started in this exciting and rewarding field of work.

The section on taking a show on tour covering the different aspects you need to consider before making the decision to go on tour is followed by two sections explaining the different poetry scenes and a segment on everything you ever wanted to know about slams.

In order to add a little perspective, we also have a segment from Russell Thompson, our own Edinburgh Fringe veteran, and finally you will find sections listing national poetry and literature festivals, poetry and literature organisations, publishers, poetry blogs, spoken word venues and different funding bodies and the national art councils.

Finally, we have sub-sections about the different regions where we are working. In these sections you will find information about spoken word events, literature organisations, venues, publishers etc. in the regions.
